At present, UGM has two main gateways outside the campus network: Astinet 20 mbps and Astinet 8 mbps, and 3 links of STM 1 (155 mbps) backbone inherent: ITB, ITS, and Unibraw. With this link, some network activities which need a great bandwidth, such as video teleconferencing, PPTIK divides Astinet 20 mbps bandwidth to the work units based on the users. The additional bandwidth for the special needs (internet café expansion, etc), could be obtained by the work units by giving an internet subscription fee to the university. Besides public terminal, the campus citizen could utilize the internet facilities through a network access points through the Wi-Fi access center which is spread on faculties and work units.
Besides internet access, PPTIK provides space for the electronic mailbox with @ugm.ac.id and @mail.ugm.ac.id as the domain, and website with these domains: .ugm.ac.id for institutions, .staf.ugm.ac.id for lecturers and staffs, and .web.ugm.ac.id for students and alumni. This internet hosting service can be obtained without charge by filling in the form at PPTIK UGM. The technical assistance for the using of email and web hosting can be obtained limited at PPTIK library.
To expedite the mail and web hosting service administration, users are asked to fill out the registration form at http://mail.ugm.ac.id/wmail and monitor the service status there. Besides the filling up of the on-line form, the new users are still required to fill and sign the form as a legal form of agreement of the UGM IT service use. To improve the efficiency of the use of the internet path, PPTIK will gradually apply the use of user id and password through the proxy server. So please, make sure that the user id (same with UGM email id without domain name) and password. The online journal like EBSCO and ProQuest can only be accessed from the campus network (without proxy).
